They offered him 700k over 2 years, not enough for John, especially when he can play in the desert for millions.

Nothing confirmed he hasn't spoken to the club personally but his agent has and is relaying info to him. Apparently is a 3rd HAL club that have made contact as well although he wouldn't reveal who. Has offers from Europe to so may not come home.

Sydney FC coach Branko Culina has admitted the club is out of the race to sign Dutch star Phillip Cocu, but that it still has plenty of options to draft in a new marquee player.

Sydney hasn't had a marquee signing since Dwight Yorke left the club at the start of last season.

PSV Eindhoven star Cocu has told the club it is too early for him to make a decision and Culina said the club's attentions have now turned elsewhere.

"It's fair to say that we've earmarked a number of players, including John Aloisi, as players that could do the job for us on and off the park," Culina said.

"We're negotiating with two or three other players, or we have been, and it's a matter now of going back to them and saying 'OK, lets see which one is the best prospect?'"

The Sydneysiders play J-League champion the Urawa Reds in Japan on Wednesday, needing victory to advance to the knockout stages of the AFC Champions League.

Culina said it would be a huge challenge for the club.

"Trying to beat Urawa Reds in Japan is the biggest challenge that Sydney FC has encountered in its short history," said Culina. "For Sydney FC to qualify for the last eight of the AFC Champions League in its first season would be an enormous achievement."

"We are far more comfortable when we are allowed to express ourselves and play our attacking football," said Culina. "I think the pressure will be on Urawa Reds who, like us, like to attack. All of a sudden they will be required to sit back and hold on to a result. That may not suit them or their fans."
