that's pretty cool. but, LA Galaxy isn't really an All-star team. Why are they touring? it will be hilarious when the Galaxy tour in Japan. no one will know who Donovan or Albright is. They might remember Cobi Jones though.
imo, a trite marketing scheme.

Is official as of today is coming to play against Sydney only. The channel 10 sport presenter today said they'll be broadcasting the match but now sure if that's true or not.
I was thinking of how to get more football exposure in Australia and was thinking hopefully some big name clubs could come and tour. This wasn't exactly what I had in mind but it's cool nonetheless.

Is it just me or do more people think this in unfair? Melbourne broke all the crowd records last year, are the best a-league team by a mile and have much more passionate supporters. I am also angry it's on free to air, why doesn't channel 10 show victory China?
Does anyone else have any thoughts on the matter?

I'm sure it's because Sydney got their asses into gear whereas Melbourne did not.

I'm sure it's because Sydney got their asses into gear whereas Melbourne did not.Bollocks
Melbourne Victory are leading the way both on and off the park - solid recruitments strengthening the squad, trip to China to promote the club and sponsorship prospects.
Sydney definitely do not deserve this game over Melbourne: crowds averaging 13k [compared with Melbourne's 30k+] with all sorts of administrative problems towards the end of the season. MV were in preliminary discussions about hosting the match but for whatever reason the FFA decided that Sydney needed this exhibition match and allegedly 'took over negotiations' [MV CEO Geoff Miles on SEN earlier this evening].
What I'm bitter about is Sydney FC chief executive George Perry saying that Beckham's LA Galaxy will play "the best club in the country".
Had this match been held in Melbourne, Victory fans would go to support their team, whereas Sydney FC need such glamour as Beckham to sell tickets. Sydney could not fill a Telstra Stadium to capacity during the recent rematch against rivals Uruguay - minus the interstate fans/ Green&Gold Army who would ordinarily attend Socceroo matches - chances are they will not be able to draw a decent crowd against Beckham et. al, on a Tuesday night.
Anyways - instead of being sour on this matter, look beyond the domestic rivalries and see this as an achievement for the game in this country; hopefully this game will attract decent atmospheres/crowd figures which Sydney FC's Asian Champions League campaign failed to generate. Meanwhile, Mr. Lowy and the FFA will pin their hopes on Beckham not injuring himself within the next 3 months, which could effectively mean no game.
So please - Sataris and ajay - get your friends & families to attend the match so as to not cost the other A-League clubs money since the FFA needed to underwrite the game!
and for all my beloved Melbournians - MV CEO says the Victory are now concentrating on a luring a big European club to play in Melbourne next winter: "We have had a number of inquires from agents and clubs in Europe." :)

They'd be looking to drum up some publicity for the sport in a lucrative, albeit underachieving market -
Of course, they aren't guarenteed the same sort of numbers that they might get in melbourne, but they seem to feel the benefits out-weigh the risks.
Gah, you guys already have a great set up down there - great crowds, great football, lotsa monies :D
Can't wait to see MV play next season.

Just want to back-up what georgez and pydgey said, Obviously the decision of where the LA Galaxy game was going to be played had been put into the hands of the FFA, If Sydney why don't they just let all 8 A-League teams Verse LA Galaxy? Obviously that wasn't possible as LA Galaxy were seeking to come here to play one game. Melbourne Victory has proven, they have supporters, a large amount of them who turn up in their averages of more than 30,000 people a game, their supporters stick by them and will come to every match, even if they don't verse LA Galaxy. Melbourne Victory play excellent football. I believe strongly like georgez was saying this fucking bullshit, Sydney got their chance is Asia's premier game when it was argued that Melbourne Victory could have and should have got their chance. Sydney is holding the FIFA Congrees, Asian's Football Confederation's awards and all major footballing events. As I was saying, Sydney had their chance in Asia's premier game and still couldn't attract crowds against Asia's best to fill up Parramatta Stadium or Aussie Stadium. Melbourne Victory had done so well in their A-League seasons, they have been an Asset and a Benchmark to Australian football. Sydney FC may not be successful, but they have had too many chances to be successful, and im sorry, in the current time Sydney can't match Melbourne in the sporting department, Melbourne is a notch higher than Sydney. I am angered than they are trying to give Sydney more chances when they have had enough. In an article on FoxSports, this is what they have to say The event is timed to coincide with Sydney hosting the Asian Football Confederation's awards, when the bigwigs and officials of Australia's new football home will be in the Harbour City to see the city go crazy for the game. Link (http://www.foxsports.com.au/story/0,,22006892-5000940,00.html?from=public_rss)
Look how it says Australia's new football home! I pose this question, and if anyone can Answer this they got to have balls. Don't Melbourne deserve to be rewarded for what they have given to the Australian game more than Sydney?

That's not the only point, its not just about the players they bring up. In the current time, Melbourne Victory is seen as an Asset and Benchmark to Australian football. If you see Australian Football, you see Melbourne Victory as the team who attracts good crowds consistantly, play attractive football and makes a number of records that will forever be a part of Australia Football. Melbourne Victory is the most successful club in Australia and according to last seasons results if any city deserves a reward it should be Melbourne.

Mate, what do you know about inbreeding, be a bit mature and don't pin point offending messages, we are generalising messages here and giving our opinions on the issue, which is part of rivalry between Melbourne and Sydney and the increasing fustration, if you want to be a fucking idiot about things and insult people personally, me in the case, do outside so I can teach you a fucking lesson not to insult me again you fucking idiot. I don't know about 2-3 teams, in the current time the set-up in Melbourne is working well, I believe that Melbourne does deserve to be the games capital, great stadiums, great crowds, very strong league outside of the A-League, essentially a recruiting league for a-league clubs and vice versa. There is loads of potiential. I strongly believe Melbourne contribution is essential to the game and without Melbourne in the picture it leaves a massive hole in the development of football in this country.

Mate, I dnt know what the fuck you are on about, if you want to insult someone, dnt generalise, because now you are bagging the "whole" of Melbourne. I expressed my opinion and you wanted to take it further, you made a come back and showed evidence of what Sydney has given to the game of Australia, we Melbournian's believe we have given alot to the Australian game and are angered based on our performances that the game was not bought done to Melbourne. This is not the point anymore though, you tried to agrevate and went too far, you basically started all this and you should be more responsible buddy. Why do each one of yous hate the others city and the people in it? Melbourne and Sydney should work together to get more big events like the LA Galaxy match.
PS- Sataris i think you said something about Sydney being better than Melbourne at everything. Open your eyes man it is the other way round, we have the best sporting events in the world, are one of the most livable cities in the world, have better restaurants than Sydney, the shops are the best in Australia, most of Australia's TNCs (trans national corporations) are based in Melbourne, our schools are the best in Australia, Melbourne Uni is the only university in Australia that is recognized over seas and in general the city is much nicer and easier to navigate than Sydney. In my opinion the only thing that Sydney has over Melbourne is the tourist attractions.
