Here is the players DOmenech called for France v Ukraine (June 2nd) and France v Georgia (June 6th) :
Goalkeepers: Coupet, Landreau, Frey.
Defenders: Abidal, Clerc, Escudé, Gallas, Sagna, Squillaci, Thuram.
Midfielders: Diaby, A. Diarra, L. Diarra, Makelele, Malouda, Nasri, Ribéry, Toulalan.
Strikers: Anelka, Benzema, Briand, Cissé, Govou.
Sagna and Briand are new to the NT!
Frey has been called too... at last!
Nasri the best promissing player of Ligue 1 2007 is their, just like Ribéry the 2006 one. :)
Trézégoal wasn't called...
We'll have to win both games to avoid problems...

Scotland are going to beat the Faroe Islands like Italy will do and Italy will probably win their game against Lithuania....
We cannot lose against Ukraine!:(
I hope all the players from Lyon and Marseille haven't celebrated too much this week

1 quick question, we are tied for 1st place right now but are ahead of Ukraine by goal differential, right?
uefa.com has us 3rd behind Ukraine and Scotland despite us having the best goal-average, which is weird...
anyway I don't think we'll have much trouble beating Georgia (if we can't beat them, then we have nothing to do in the Euro 2008 anyway).
as for Ukraine, Dommenech will come up again with a super-defensive line-up as against Lithuania so I expect nothing more than a boring draw...

1 quick question, we are tied for 1st place right now but are ahead of Ukraine by goal differential, right? When teams have the same number of points the first rule is that you make a special ranking between the teams which have the same points :
Scotland 1-0 France
Ukraine 2-0 Scotland
This means that Ukraine and Scotland have 3 points and France 0
And now Ukraine is 1st cause they have a +2 difference of goal and Scotland +1.
So the final ranking is :
Ukraine 12pts
Scotland 12pts
France 12pts
Official rules from UEFA (http://www.uefa.com/competitions/euro/format/newsid=324619.html)
Equality of points after the group matches
If two or more teams are equal on points on completion of the group matches, the following criteria are applied to determine the rankings.
a) Higher number of points obtained in the group matches played among the teams in question.
b) Superior goal difference from the group matches played among the teams in question.
c) Higher number of goals scored in the group matches played among the teams in question.
d) Higher number of goals scored away from home in the group matches played among the teams in question.
e) If, after applying criteria a) to d) to several teams, two or more teams still have an equal ranking, the criteria a) to d) will be reapplied to determine the ranking of these teams. If this procedure does not lead to a decision, criteria f) and g) will apply.
f) Results of all group matches: 1. Superior goal difference 2. Higher number of goals scored 3. Higher number of goals scored away from home 4. Fair play conduct.
g) Drawing of lots.

Not sure if Ribery and Nasri play since the beginning
Maybe Domenech draw a lesson from the Austria game: let the youngers play and put Benzema and Nasri on the pitch not on the bench
I don't understand why Domenech insist on picking up average players when he has a shitload of young talented players in france:mad:

Nasri should start the game! :)
Line up :
Anelka
Malouda ---- Nasri ---- Ribéry
Toulalan - Makélélé
Abidal - Gallas - Thuram - Clerc
Coupet
About Cissé, he showed with Marseille that he was a great sub so I guess Domenech did the right choice.

It was great seeing some Marseille players getting some time...
Seeing Nasri in the lineup was rather exciting and watching Riberly have his moments of brillance was truely thrilling!!!I think Nasri really secured a spot on the starting line up...I can't wait to see them play again vs. Georgia.
Still Cisse didn't impress me and showed why he will continue to be a sub at best.

Indeed it was nice to see Nasri and Ribéry play even though I didn't like the way France played during the 1st half... We won and it's the most important!
About Cissé it's not fair cause he went on the pitch the last 10 minutes when France was waiting for the end of the game... I hope to see him with Nasri and Ribéry for France v Georgia.

mexes needs more caps.
Certainly.
I don't understand what Mexes has to do to get a call-up. There is nothing more he can do anymore. I understand that Domenech would prefer old players like Thuram on the starting line-up but not even a call-up. That is just weird.

France keeper Coupet hurt in Lyon training
LYON (Reuters) - France goalkeeper Gregory Coupet hurt his left knee in training with his Olympique Lyon club on Thursday, a spokesman for the six-times French champions said.
Tests will be conducted later in the day to determine how serious the injury is.
The Ligue 1 season resumes this weekend with the champions entertaining Auxerre for their first match on Sunday.

you can say that. ! how do we lose this game ? I can't explain: more ball possession, more shots; more scoring chances and in a "one pass, one shot" action, Scotland gets it. Scottish goalie has been great but it doesn't explain everything. Now, France has no choice to win it all to be sure to qualify.

It doesn't matter who wins, as long as someone wins. ;)
As France don't have to play Scotland or Italy again, they will take full points from three games, ending with 28 points.
The most Italy and Scotland do is take full points from their three games, which means either Scotland 30/Italy 26, or Italy 29/Scotland 27. However, Scotland also has to play Ukraine, who they lost to 2-0.

October 13 - Scotland - Ukraine
November 17 - Scotland - Italy

Ukraine manhandled Scotland in Kiev last October and Italy did the same when they played Scotland. The Scots have it good though seeing as both matches will be @ Hampden Park. All France have to do is win out.

34 goals from 69 NT games (wiki) doesnt exactly show a message that he sucks for the NT.
Saha has 4 goals from 18 games.
So not only are you replace a proven NT scorer with someone who hasnt really hit the net. But your also dropping someone in great touch for someone who isnt.

you're right but, when was the last time he scored for us? that's the question.
he doesn't move a lot on the field, he's just good at finishing from close range imo, that's why i think henry -anelka is the best combination upfront for us.

How often has he played in the last few months? He was dropped unfairly to begin with and has now said that if he was to be recalled for the Ukraine match he will think before he accepts it. At 29 and with what he's done he should be treated with more respect.
Still to put him in ahead of Saha who isnt even in the same class at Trezegol is not smart play. More so when the stats and current form all are in the Trez's favor.

On the other hand, Saha may be picked for his versatility. Both Govou and Saha can be used on the wings as well (e.g. World Cup). Ribery and Malouda are often the first players that Domenech pulls off. So you could say it's Benzema who is being picked over Trez, probably in order to give him some experience ahead of his debuts at the next two major tournaments (he's just 19).
France has only lost three of the last twenty-four games. Of the games Trez has played in, France has lost three of the last four. He's scored just three goals in his last twelve games (two of those in a 5-0 massacre of the Faroe Islands...). I like Trez. I would like to see him in the side, and would like to see him reach Platini's goal mark, but I can see why Domenech is not selecting him everytime. He's just had a string of tough performances.

are his recent injuries why he isn't there?

Yes, although I am happy for Ben Arfa (turned down Tunisia for this), I feel bad for Trezeguet. Domenech is supposedly not picking him because he(Trez) criticized Domenech tactics in the Scotland loss. Good question is Who hasn't been critical of him........?

The commentator on Fox was all out of sorts today, somewhat amusing
Called Ribery France's "free kick specialist," and after he was subbed, didn't know who was going to take a free kick without the "specialist" on the field. "Maybe even Thuram himself!" :D Must not be aware of Henry's free kicks.
He kept calling Ben Arfa "Mexes," and later apologized, blaming it on a wrong number on his squad sheet. But anyone who has seen Mexes could never mistake him for a 5'10" 20-year-old Tunisian winger. ;)
He also called the referee team Turkish, but according to uefa.com, they are from San Marino.

yeah... to be fair the Turkish refs didn't make it (due to weather) so the San Marino refs had to take over since they were already there for the under 21 game...
FSC still sucks, but at least they showed the game... fucking TV5 is useless! The only worldwide internation French TV channel and they didn't even show this game!

Well folks its all over and we (scotland) crashed and burned against the italians. Looks like you can have a nice kickabout against ukraine during the week without any worries.
Well done and congratulations.

thank mate... i really feel for you, I swear I am not the only France fan that was hoping you guys would win so it would only be both our teams qualifying, but it just wasn't meant to be (that bullshit last minute foul call didn't help either)
good luck for South Africa, and way to pull the double on us!
cheers!
