I've seen attacks on teammates and insults but this one tops them all, could this be the end of lyon? I expect to see many of their players go now.

Govou blasts egotistical Juninho

LYON, France (AFP) - France striker Sidney Govou on Thursday launched a scathing attack on his Brazilian team-mate Juninho, accusing him of being egotistical.

Despite Lyon coasting to a record sixth French title in a row last season, Govou claimed in an interview in the monthly Lyon Mag that the club's form dipped in the second half of the season due to deteriorating morale.

"The club had difficulties managing the egos. There were many relationship problems in the team," he said. "The worst was concerning Juninho.

"From the beginning of the season Gerard Houllier (the coach) and Jean-Michel Aulas (the president) decided to proclaim Juninho as the star of the team. Personally I didn't care but that posed many problems for some of the team's main players."

Govou, who is one of Lyon's highest earners despite scoring a solitary league goal last season, slammed the preferential treatment handed out to Juninho.

"In the end we understood that there was him and the rest. That ended up damaging what had made Lyon strong over so many years: group unity.

"Throughout the years we built up a family at Lyon but this last season that was no longer the case. There were more egos. And a large part of the problem was Juninho."

Govou claims to have spoken about the issue with Juninho and said he doesn't blame the Brazilian.

"It's not his fault. This status of team star put too much pressure on him. He changed his attitude on the pitch. During games he wanted to be the saviour.

"We all saw that he was more nervous and he started to berate us on the pitch. The other players stopped listening to Juninho."

Real Madrid situation was far better. We never had internel fights but president issues.

yeah.. fuck Govou.. Lyon have been trying to get rid of that twat for the past 2 seasons and he comes out with a scathing attack on Juninho. I mean, any self proclaiming lyon fan (like myself) know that apart from Malouda and Abidal, Juninho has been very influential to lyon this season. I mean, guy is up there in age and only played two-thirds of the season. What has Govou done for lyon this season? NOTHING.. absolutely worthless crap. Alaus and Houllier are justified in proclaiming juninho as lyon's star player cause he has been for the past 3 years. Let's not forget, juninho arrived at lyon 6 yrs ago and that was the year the won the title - and since then, he has been lyon's "golden boy". And NO this is not the end of lyon. Lyon will prolly win thier 7th straight title but no doubt they will have a different team. Abidal, malouda, govou(shit-head), wiltord, cacapa are all on thier way out. Lyon will prolly pick up a new striker to reaplace wiltord and prolly an experienced left back and a defensive midfielder.. oph yeah.. alou diarra is done and dust too..

Lyon is a football club full of highly paid professional footballers. It isn't a social club. Who cares if they don't all get on. Govou can shut up as he is supposed to be a striker and he only managed one goal last season! I don't see what is wrong with Juninho being treated as the star player, when he is their best player by a long way.

I stopped reading after that. Don't cry like a baby when you didn't prove your worth.

On the official website, Govou denied making those statements, saying that LyonMag had fabricated them.
