What, Im kinda confused,
I just know of these matches:
-Mexico.0 vs 2.US: Feb-12th 2007 ... (friendly)
-Mexico._ vs _.US: Jun-24th 2007 ... (goldCup final)
(just aired)
So are U telling me that there will also be a:
-Mexico._ vs _.US: Sep- 9th 2007 ... (friendly?)...?
and now, I'll got to fifa.com to confirm.

This looks interesting. Probably the concept was prearranged for home and away friendlies and they could not set the date until FIFA announced the international calendar. Well, here's to Hugo Sanchez going 0-3 against the USA. Unless of course he gets fired before then, say after the Copa America. A win for the US at Azteca would be the ultimate embarassment.

If El Tree loses at Azteca, might as well get rid of the entire team LOL

I think this would be a good chance to give the youngsters a baptism of fire. Get them used to Azteca and even though we would probably lose, we would be better able to win in say 2009 during WC qualis.

I think it is mostly going to be Europe-based players. MLS will be moving into the end of season and playoffs at that time and since this is a designated international matchday, all of our Europe-based players will be off from competition. The only alternative would be to reschedule potential MLS matches that would conflict, but that never seems to happen. FFS, Houston and KC played a match today in direct conflict with the friggin' Gold Cup final. How ridiculous is that?

Man, Azteca is the Hell of the living world for USMNT. Mexican fans go way over board over there. Anyway, this is a tough match and tough place to play it in.
I predict US to win 1-0 from a PK ;)

US getting a PK at Azteca? No way José. Especially not after what happened in the Gold Cup final. The Mexicans feel they deserved 3 PK's against Gooch alone. I predict a 1-1 draw, with the Mexicans getting a dodgy penalty.

Great to see USA finally going to the Azteca. Seems like everytime USA and Mexico play they play on US soil. Last time USA went to Mexico for a friendly was 1984. Wow.

I am confused, what does basketball have to do with football
In any event, I wonder what the USA's record is against Mexico in hoops?
In fact, is there any other sport where Mexico is actually good at? And saying Mexico is good at football is a stretch, considering El Tri have won the same number of World Cups that the US has. Funny enough, Mexico has only made it to two World Cup Quarter Finals, both times the tournament was coincidentally hosted by Mexico. And guess how many World Cup Quarter Finals Team USA has been to? Well only one. But we have also been in a World Cup Semi Final as well :D
You want to only talk about the Copa America, where we sent a "C" team. But you are forgetting the cup that matters for our federation, the Gold Cup. We certainly won that quite handily. And in case you forget, Mexicans out numbered Americans in the stands at the final 3-to-1, so it was not exactly like a home atmosphere and we still won. And if these wins were so meaningless, why were Mexican fans throwing objects at the US team as they carried the trophy around the stadium?

when the USA beats Mexico en el Azteca I might respect them but that will never happen.
no the USA has never reached the semifinals it was the united nations that reached that semifinal the only american on that team was probably the waterboy.
8-0-1 on usa soil
0-22--1 away from home
who owns who?

My word, is there a CD skipping somewhere? Because I swear I think I just read the exact same thing a couple posts ago. Come up with something new to say.
And BTW, I am sure that if the USA had played Mexico in the snow in Boston every time we met for 20+ years, we would have a similar record. That is the amount of advantage that Mexico gets playing all of their home matches at altitude in Azteca. Why doesn't Mexico play matches anywhere else in that big country? Monterrey? Guadalajara? That's what I thought.
In the mean time, we will be happy to host Mexico in Columbus, Boston, Houston, Dallas, DC, Miami, Seattle, LA, Denver, whereever. It don't matter to us. We can play Mexico in the US in front an entire Mexican crowd and still beat you. We can play you in Korea on neutral soil and beat you. And yet El Tri will only face the USA at altitude at Azteca. It's sad really.

Honestly, I think that from a Mexican perspective the rivalry goes far beyond the pitch and it ends up working against Mexico when outside of their home soil. Mexicans view the USA as an oppressive nation who took land, imposed culture, and drained/drains the economy. There are very few things that Mexico can use to "stick it" to the US. Because of this, Mexican players have a ton of pressure to win when playing the American national team. When not backed by 100,000 fans in the Azteca, this becomes too much pressure. The Mexican national team players "psyche" themselves out.
On the flip side, the American players treat it more as a pretty big sports rivalry, nothing more. That's why even though they win, lose or draw they are still willing to exchange jerseys after the game (something Mexican players refuse to do). So, they "step up" to the big game because they don't have an entire nation behind them (they won't make the front page of any major national newspaper regardless of how the score) putting pressure on them to win and they don't have all the "mental baggage" to carry with them into the game.
I am not trying to get into a political debate. No need to post defending what the US or Mexico do politically, economically, or culturally. I am just stating a mere truth about the thought process of the Mexican national team going into the games. You can blame it on the altitude (let's not be naive and turn a blind eye to the fact that the US national team trains in Colorado prior to every Azteca game and that the majority of players on the Mexican national team do not live or play in Mexico City), the weather, the fans, or straight up territorial hegemony, but I think these are all smoke screens for the real issue.... ;)

I'm going to laugh my butt off when Benny puts another volley into the net at El Azteca and El Tri goes down to Estados Unidos once again!
Hopefully Borgetti will be back then so we'll have an easy time of beating Mexico.

This game is going to be interesting. The U.S. hasn't been here in a long time, not since we've come up in the world anyway. Also I don't know if we (usa) are going to bring our best team. I'm sure Mexico will bring theirs since they are so desparate to beat us, having not done so in a while...haha. If we win in Mexico we can officially say we own Mexico. Which would be fitting since American home games are really Mexican home games anyway. The only thing I can see as being a factor for the u.s. is breathing in all those shit particles flying around in the mexican air. :D

Well those shit particles wont be as bad because at such a high altitude the air will tough to breathe in. Now thats the problem with playing at Azteca.

Uhm we own you. whens the last time you beat the U.S.? exactly, at Azteca. We'll beat you anywhere in between Korea and Japan(yes I mean the whole world) Sure the friendly confines of Azteca are nice but outside of Mexico City , advantage USA. The current Mexican National team are a bit too scared from losing to the yanks one too many times to beat USA. And I think its fair to call your side my Puta:D
And OBTW. USA's team that finished last place in Copa America is missing 10 players from their usual Starting XI:eek:

Being an Argentine fan, I'm completely nuteral in all of this. Seeing as how we spanked the Mexicans 3 years running(2005 Confederations Cup Semi-Final, 2006 World Cup and 2007 Copa America... AND U20 World Cup). And we also beat the States in the Copa. With all that said and done, I expect the Mexicans to beat the States. Playing on home soil seems to be an advantage and its difficult to beat the Mexicans or any team in the Azteca(not too hard for Maradona though, right England?;)).
That Gold Cup means nothing. States should of gone to Extra Time versus Canada(I live in Canada, but I'm not even close of liking the team in any sport). Both teams played well in that final, but lets face it, the Mexicans were robbed of 1-2 penaltys where as the States had 4 PK's in the entire tournament if I'm not mistaken(AND 1 in the final).
In the end, I'd send Donovan to the wolves that is called the Azteca and see if he survives. I'd send both Starting X1 squads into that match just to see who's the better team that night. Because if Donovan(or any other player for that matter) is as good as ESPN hypes them up to be, than they can play anywhere... right? As long as the States don't get thrashed 3-0 or more with Donovan out there, I would think it would be some sort of success. Especially how the Mexicans are out for revenge.

LAst time both Teams meet, during 2006 world cup qualifying USA lost 2-1, in a very tight game. USA won't fall by more then 2-1.

Greetings again from Aeropuerto O'Hare.....
Here's the latest buzz from the windiest of cities:
USA-Mexico at Azteca on Sept. 9, rumored to be in trouble, has been cancelled. USA-Brazil at Soldier Field on the same day has been agreed upon. Not a bad replacement match, huh?
No reason given for the change, but Spanish TV rights were believed to be part of the problem for the original matchup.
So Brazil will play the U.S. lads on the 9th on ESPN2, then meet Mexico three days later at Foxborough.
No comment from the USSF, but expect an official announcement soon.
Okay, now off to Chili's for dinner (blah).

It is an international match day for EURO 2008 qualifiers. Brazil, like the USA and all other teams in the Americas and Asia, don't have a competitive match that day. I suspect we will see the same Copa America side. The players make bonuses for these matches and both Federations make a bundle of cash. But they need to fill the seats.
It will probably be either Ronaldinho or Kaka, one or the other, but not both as the main attraction. Probably Ronaldo too, he wants to tryout for MLS also. After that, probably the same or closely similar Copa America side will arrive.

I was thinking it would be something a long those lines like you stated. I'm sure the only way to face their top players would have been to have the game in Europe but with Euro qualifiers taking place the chances of being able to do that were slim. Then again its better than playing another friendly against teams you know you can be like Guatemala or China.

Don't get distracted. This is nothing more than a money making opportunity. They would not play in Europe, because who will fill a stadium to see the USA play against Brazil "B" + Ronaldinho?
USSoccer want to get 50,000 people in Soldier Field, with each paying $35 or more. Then make some extra cash off the TV rights. Half of that money would go to Brazilian Federation and they would keep the other half.
It's all about the money. And with the MLS playoffs coming up, this match has "lazy exhibition" written all over it. Probably will feature a lot of young players like Anderson, who won't play much this season for their clubs.
