is this the right forum? I'm not sure, but I'm interested to see what the wider football world knows about this guy, I'm not trusting the wiki on this one. I remember him from the late 90s at Porto and the guy was a goal machine, and got 2 Golden Boot awards for his efforts.
Then he went to Galatasaray and Sporting and bagged stupid amounts of goals again. But what the hell happened? And why was he not called up to the Brazilian team on a regular basis, its not as if he had a bad CV?
If anyone can let me know what actualy happened to this guys career I would be very grateful.

The wiki is pretty much accurate as far as I know. He moved sides alot, munched down alot of pies and basically became fat and useless.

Didn't he play for Bolton for a season or so? He came with some kind of rep as having scored a lot of goals in mysterious places and turned up as a massive pieeater who scored nought for a long while.

Did he actually win the golden boots because iirc its not actually worked out on how many goals scored; but also takes into factor the standard of league...and as he was playing in a piss poor league his goals didn't count to as much as they would have been if say in La Liga, Premier League or Serie A. Just IIRC when Kevin Phillips won the golden boot at Sunderland (oooh yess!!) .... I think jardel actually scored more goals but in a shite league.
Oh and yes...he went to Bolton and did nowt....hope Fat Sam buys some more pie eaters for them up the road :)

bit of an update on the Jardel situation. Still a lot of work to do to get the deal through it seems
The Newcastle Jets’ deal with Brazilian striker Mario Jardel is far from done, despite the fact his arrival in Australia is imminent.
The Jets have publicly admitted their interest in the 33-year-old, with reports from the Hunter Valley claiming that he is definitely en route to meet with club officials. Gary Van Egmond and his team will arrive in Wellington later today, ahead of their Pre-Season Cup play-off match against Phoenix on Friday night.
Jets insiders have told au.fourfourtwo.com there is “nothing concrete” regarding the proposed deal that would make Jardel the club’s marquee player. If the deal eventuates, current marquee player Ante Covic will be moved to fit under the salary cap.
The stumbling block is believed to surround Jardel’s physical condition with the Jets insisting he satisfy club medical staff before any agreement is finalised. Despite his fine goalscoring history, Jardel has struggled with weight problems in recent years.
The acting head of the A-League Rob Abernethy yesterday told News Limited newspapers that the FFA has not yet received a formal submission regarding the former Brazil striker.
Another possible hitch would be an FFA veto of the move, similar to one activated when the Jets tried to sign controversial English frontman Stan Collymore last season. Jardel is alleged to have had problems with gambling and drugs in the past, but the Jets feel they won't encounter the same problems should they wish to sign the former Porto and Galatasaray hero.
With the Jets’ round one match against Perth Glory now just 17 days away, it is likely that Jardel is still weeks from appearing in the A-League, if at all.

Yes he did win the Golden Boot twice. And he would have won it three times if it wasn't for the weighting system.
And he is ours now. The Newcastle Jets have signed him on a one year contract as a marque player.

Hope he does well. Posted a vid of the press conference and a report in the vids section which you can see and he was quite relaxed at it and joking around which was good. Interested to see what kind of shape he's in.
