Frankfurt striker Amanatidis investigated over alleged assault
Eintracht Frankfurt striker Ioannis Amanatidis is being investigated by police over an alleged city centre assault on a woman.
Amanatidis, 26, is alleged to have struck a 33-year-old Macedonian woman in Frankfurt on Tuesday afternoon and is under investigation, a police spokesman confirmed to German sports agency SID on Wednesday.
The Greek international, who booked his country's Euro 2008 place with the winning goal against Turkey in October, met with club officials on Wednesday.
He has been given full support by the Bundesliga side's management including executive chairman Heribert Bruchhagen.
'He has assured us that although there was an argument with a man (accompanying the alleged victim), there was no physical contact and we have complete confidence in his statement,' said Bruchhagen.
Amanatidis took part in training on Wednesday and is expected to be named in the team for Saturday's Bundesliga clash against Schalke 04 and has made no comment under advice from his lawyer.
But the alleged victim says the Greek star hit her after an argument broke out as she tried to park her car.
'I wanted to protect my father and he (Amanatidis) hit me with his full palm on the left side of my face,' the woman involved told German tabloid Bild.
I trust Amanitidis. Way to fuel the fire, bitch. Keep giving more yellow press for Bild to give to the retarded masses.
