Long winter break, yes because of the weather. Also because all leading experts on the matter say a minimum of a 2 week break is what is required for players to deliver at peak levels through the season.

Question that should be being asked is why do other leagues have such short breaks?

personally I'd prefer the Bundesliga winter break to be a bit shorter, perhaps ending two weeks earlier than it currently does. I would like to see more of a break in other leagues like the EPL. Spain has a short break over Christmas, which I like, I don't like seeing games on Boxing Day & New Years Day like the Epl with 3 matches in 10 days in shit weather & all that.

I like the Spanish format, with a shorter break. Then again as fans we want all footie, all the time!

the english and spanish league also have more teams in their league.
so they are kinda forced to spread the game days over the year.

I kinda like the long break because it gives me time to catch up on my downloads :P. It also provides more time to regroup. Moreso the first reason.
