Just because the coiled snake has a history, doesn't mean it is about soccer or soccer fans. How can the gadsden really apply to us soccer when it also can be used by any us militia? When people see the snake on the news they don't say "there goes a USMNT fan". It's just me that doesn't like the revolutionary war and colonialism as the theme for the team.
The "don't tread on me" patriotic logo was used by nike in a marketing effort to create support for the us national team through an image of history. It speaks to nationalism, maybe even the underdogness of the us team against the rest of the world. It is in use because it looks cool, and because of nike's sponsorship. I'm sure adidas would have used a different slogan.
whether it was "created" in an ad agency office or just sprouted out of the association, i realize it still has a following. it is what it is.
I just wanted some ideas from other fans so that I could create other logos that speak to the game and the nation's involvement in it from another viewpoint*.
