Default Spanish La Liga, that Rotten Apple.

Hi friends, I´m opening this thread to discuss that poor competition which once was worth watching, and now is a mere laughing-stock for everyone in Europe to see.

Spanish La Liga is a shameful spectacle since TV money came into action only for Barcelona & Madrid, so UEFA big clubs should do something about it to stop this ravaging, ´cause Spaniard coward chairmen won´t do a thing to stop it.

Wot d´you think??

Ps. I´m a Spanish guy, a Real Betis fan, in case there are doubts.

there was also a fantastic article about the insane amount of the tv revenues from la liga that go to RM/Barca and how the remaining teams are left to fight for the scraps. it is what it is. barca/RM bring in the big players and make all the money all while the media does its part by trumpeting up a "rivalry". pshhh...i'm sure the presidents of those two teams secretly love each other...those two teams need each other to continue making their money.

but your post will fall on mostly deaf ears here, the majority here (as anywhere else, really) are supporters of the best marketed megaclubs. barca and RM supporters though will argue that not many outside Spain would watch/care about La Liga if not for those two teams, and the TV revenues wouldn't be nearly as high if not for their clubs, and that because of that they deserve to get the biggest chunk.

There have been some discussions in the Spanish league circles of balancing that tv revenue issue. For sure, those two need each other but they also need the other teams of the league because one cannot have 38 El Clasicos in a season. I believe the change can be made after 2014.

Count me in as part of the minority. While I'm a Barcelona fan, it's clear as hell that the whole TV money is unfair. While Barcelona and Madrid might attract more "casual" viewers towards La Liga or might have the most fans in Spain, there's also 18 other teams that make up the league.

The money should be distributed equally. I don't care if you're Barcelona, Real Madrid, Betis, Valencia, Levante or whoever, those teams make up the league.

Maybe have something like whoever finishes in the top 4 that season gets a higher percentage (of the cut) next season or something (as a bonus), but to keep it the way it is now is a no-no. During the Barcelona/Osasuna game, the announcers said something like Osasuna spent a total of 2 million in the transfer market. How are they supposed to sign players with that much money?

So yeah, count me as one of those who thinks something needs to change when it comes to the TV money.

It's like when you talk, the commands come from your brain.

If the TV money was spread equally, then there would be fewer people who would watch La Liga ONLY for Barcelona and/or Real Madrid. If the TV money were spread equally more people would watch La Liga, period. The EPL was the most popular league in the world, by miles, even when it was unquestionably the 3rd league in the world.

The league is only hurting itself. We don't need the league to be made up of the big 2 plus the Malagas. Even Valencia might look less brain dead than they currently do.

it's a nice idea, yes, and it would be great for those of us sick of megaclub bombardment...but RM and Barca won't let go of their chunk of the TV deals easily...and they have money for the best lawyers in the world. the way it currently is is fantastic for them and their businesses. i bet they'd sue the league and whatnot...the Big 4 in EPL would probably say the same thing...they bring the majority of viewers to the league, like it or not, and the TV ratings show it.

It seems this is the proposed distribution plan:

Via eldesmarque.es

does anybody have the old distribution I'd like to see how it compares.
I've listened to a journalist (rmd fan) who argued that the difference would be 5m per club, and that it wouldn't change anything.
