Default A-League 09/10

Teams:

Should be a massive new season in Australia coming up, especially with the addition of two new teams in Gold Coast United and North Queensland Fury.

A number of current Socceroos have returned home including Chris Coyne and Mile Sterjovski to Perth Glory, while new boys Gold Coast have snapped up former PSV midfielder Jason Culina.

Many eyes will be on Robbie Fowler, who has joined as marquee for the Fury, but whose fitness and commitment have been questioned recently.

I got my Melbourne V. membership last week . Should be another interesting season. Its good that they expended the competition but Queensland doesn't need 3 teams. There should be at least 1 more team in Melbourne considering the population and number of fans that attend games.

3 teams in Queensland is simply ridiculous!

Go the Glory

Melbourne City look set to be the next team... tbh is an absolutely strange option given the Victory's success with crowds.

Where will the find the fans will be the big issue.

Gold Coast I think has more chance of succeeding than Nth QLD... what we need this season are crowds and good football.

Melbourne has lot of potential for soccer. I think that 1 more team should not be a problem. It's good to have city rivalry which attracts crowds. Like against Sydney during pre-play off games there is more than 30 000 and Sydney is are only "traditional" rival. Its like AFL games. There is way more people when Victorian clubs play against each other than when interstate club comes.
I can't understand why Queensland has 3 clubs when Brisbane last season had hardly 10 000 people.

I fancy the Glory as well. Is there anyone here on Maxxed who consistently caps A-League matches?? If so that'd be great because I'd love to watch the Glory regularly.

It shouldn't be about manufacturing rivalries though that don't exist.

Sydney and Melbourne has built up since 2005, but there was always the NSW and Victorian rivalry historically embedded in the Australian sporting psyche.

Victory does well to get the crowds it does now and to simply split the City in half to capitalise on this 'potential' may well be a big mistake.

I'd rather see a team in Geelong/Frankston if anything.
