From what I've heard about him this doesn't sound fun.

Either way, this is what I said a couple of weeks ago

Quote:
Muricy has achieved some success, no doubt. But even his league-winning SP squads were defensive and played ugly football, and Muricy's trademark is his work ethic. Plus he's bitter and a little arrogant with the media. Reminds you of anyone?
I think this is a mistake by CBF. I think he's another Dunga waiting to happen.

People go on and on about his success, but people can't forget there is a huge difference between being successful in leagues and successful in cups.

Muricy is a league coach. He's consistent and gets the most out of his players in the long run. He manages the team's morale to make sure there are never any bad streaks.

But for the NT, you need a cup coach. You need someone who can fire up a team and get the most out of them in one single night. Someone that could turn around an entire match with nothing but 3 subs and a speech at halftime.

There's a reason São Paulo fired the guy that had won them 3 consecutive leagues and was named best coach of the Brasileirão for 4 consecutive years:
Even though Muricy had success, he is not a cup coach that could win them a Libertadores.
If Brazil wanted to win the South American WC qualis, Muricy would be a terrific choice. But if we want to win the WC itself, Muricy is not our guy.

Brazil snubbed as club refuse to release Ramalho

Surely just a way to get compensation?

BREAKING NEWS

lol, Mano Menezes has been offered the job seconds ago.

This is so funny, only in Brasil this could happen. I would have thought that CBF would have talked to Fluminense before announcing Muricy for the job. Just brilliant work by CBF

I wonder if they talked to Corinthians before they offered Mano the job

I'm guessing Teixeira talked to Fluminense and they said no. Then, being the stubborn egomaniac that he is, Teixeira figured leaking it to the press would make Fluminense's president fold under the pressure and give up on keeping Muricy.

Anyway, I'm very happy this deal didn't go through.

Like I said earlier too, the fact that Corinthians' president Andre Sanchez was with the NT staff in South Africa should make this deal much easier for CBF and Mano.
I think that, of all the currently available names in Brazil, Mano is the better choice

This is a joke? Besides, his contract runs out THIS YEAR. This is really bad by CBF, especially because I'm not trusting them to get it right.

Were we always this arrogant? Yowsa.

Menezes accepts offer to coach Brazil

Quote:
SAO PAULO, July 24 (Reuters) - Mano Menezes, currently coach of Corinthians, accepted an offer to take over as coach of Brazil on Saturday.
“For the whole of Brazil, I say that I officially accept the invitation,” he told a news conference. The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) said on Friday night that they had offered Menezes the job.

So, Mano has officially taken over and his first call-up was made yesterday. The names:

GKs
Víctor (Grêmio)
Jefferson (Botafogo)
Renan (Avaí)

CBs
David Luiz (Benfica-POR)
Henrique (Racing-ESP)
Rever (Atlético-MG)
Thiago Silva (Milan-ITA)

LBs
Marcelo (Real Madrid-ESP)
André Santos (Fernerbahce-TUR)

RBs
Daniel Alves (Barcelona-ESP)
Rafael (Manchester United-ING)

DMs
Sandro (Internacional)
Hernanes (São Paulo)
Jucilei (Corinthians)
Lucas (Liverpool-ING)
Ramires (Benfica-POR)

AMs
Ederson (Lyon)
Paulo Henrique Ganso (Santos)
Carlos Eduardo (Hoffenhein)

STs
Alexandre Pato (Milan-ITA)
André (Santos)
Tardeli (Atlético-MG)
Robinho (Santos)
Neymar (Santos)

-------------

Lots of new faces (some that I've never even heard of.. David Luiz? Ederson?) and an overall very young squad. The forward line is basically Santos'.

I imagine Mano is primarily thinking about the Olympics right now. Many of those guys will still be U23 in 2012. Should be interesting to see if this will be his main focus for the next couple of years or if he'll mix things up with some veterans once the Euro season gets underway.

The only thing that has really puzzled everyone around here is the fact that he called up Jucilei, who's not actually a starter at Corinthians. So, if the guy doesn't even get playing time in Mano's former club, how come he would for the NT? And he won't be U23 in 2012 either, so that can't be part of his reasoning.
Looks fishy. I wonder if there are any strings attached to his now sudden promotion...

Lightbulb

How do you guys feel about Brazil not having to go through qualifiers? How will the new trainer use his time to build a team?
I was just thinking, what if Brazil wanted to compete for entry into 2014? I wonder if it would be possible.
