How'd you see a british PL?
probably discussed a hundred times before, but what would you make of a possible premier league with teams from england, scotland, wales and ireland? perhaps starting at a proportion of 14 english teams, 2 scottish, 2 welsh and 2 irish. I just dont see the logic in having 2 welsh teams, or 1 next season, and still have apart two scottish teams that by themselves are suffocating and that'd contribute to a more competitive and exciting PL.
Im not british so Im missing a lot of internal rivalries and political issues, but from a strictly football POV dont you think this makes sense? the rest of the scottish league would eventually fight for places in the championship and little by little create a unique british league, where national identities would still be respected, and in a sense, enhanced by these rivalries, but would benefit economically from a stronger league that gives more tv rights, exposure and eventually capacity to sign bigger players. Scotland by itself is going to drown, the irish league remains very little, and the welsh is basically part of the english, whats the point?
obviously you'll still have national teams for each of the home nations, but celtic, rangers or any other scottish club would finally have the money to compete in europe, and as for bragging rights, how about beating all the big english clubs at their own league?

Sure, why not. The Old Firm have been going on about their credentials to bugger off & play in the EPL or that daft North Atlantic League concept that popped up several times in the last decade. So a 'British PL' would possibly suit their lofty desires too (especially Rangers with their Union fetish).
Basically what I mean is if they're not happy then they can get tae fuck & leave the rest of us to get on with it. We'll survive in some shape or form & I'll support my team just the same without them (mebbe burst less bloodvessels at the match mind you). I've felt/said this for years, not going to change now.
There's also the added bonus of not having to deal with the constant vile bigotry, which will be nice. Go for it, you've got my vote MRA.

hehe, well its only an idea from someone whos fairly ignorant about the complexities of such a project. From my selfish POV, football wise, I rather watch a united-celtic or united-rangers, than united-blackburn or united-norwich, and if you gave enough money to those big scottish clubs Im sure you'd eventually see them challenging for CL places.
Although this idea may appear on the surface as only good for the big two, I really think it'd be helpful for the other teams as well, if the integration well rounded to include also the rest of scottish teams. wouldnt you prefer to watch at your stadium a team like WBA, Leeds or nottingham forest than kilmarnock or ... (I know shit about scottish football... sorry ). I know for a fact that scottish football and league are going nowhere as it is, what other practical solutions can you think of?

I'd be for it if we could take Hibernian with us so Hibby could still deal with the vile bigotry .

Don't get me wrong, I'd watch such a competition on the telly if it were to ever become reality. I just have no desire to see my team involved.
For a starters, I don't believe the Scottish leagues are near death as you seem to intimate & although nowhere near the level of quality or 'pomp & circumstance' of the big european leagues and competitions, the SPL games still provide plenty of interest for me. I've had a Hibs season ticket for the last 20 years (missing very few games) & have just renewed it for next season, ready to watch the mighty Kilmarnock, etc test their mettle against my side - and this is after a Hibs 10th placed finish of a very poor season last. I have belief people will always have a passion for football in Scotland (it's a massively influential aspect of our society after all, even without the religious distractions). I also think that the removal of the Old Firm could be a watershed moment which may possibbly breath life back into the Scottish domestic game. The sheer size, influence & power of these 2 teams provide a very stifling atmosphere, moreso every year as the money is completely centred around their presence & wants, the officials & bigwigs constantly pandering to their wishes & complaints. I may be a completely deluded fantasist in my outlook, but like Scottish Independence we will never know until we try & living in fear of the possible negative consequences is a poor way to live imo. So let's suck it & see (as the actress said to the bishop)!
Also and more importantly, where the fuck am I supposed to get the money to travel down to London, Manchester, Birmingham, etc every two weeks? I can't even afford prawn sandwiches at half time man - Bovril & Scotch Pie for me I'm afraid! Leave that for all these super rich playboys like Mullet, Nelly, King_Henrik & Jimmy FFS - they can share a lear jet or limo-yacht on their way down to the Emirates, etc nae bother ataw.
I'm sure I've got other valid reasons, but my fingers hurt as much as my brain now so....

In all honesty on one hand I would love for Rangers to be able to cash in on some Premier League money, but I would much rather see a major re-structuring of the Scottish Leagues.

I would not follow that kind of competition. I´d still watch SPL as far as I´m concerned. Don´t mind about the quality. Premiership is bigger than Championship and I still watch the likes of Preston, watford or Forest more often than the top clubs in England.
Years ago a British Superleague idea was mentioned. It would include Dundee Utd, Aberdeen (apart from the OF) as they were two of the stronger clubs in Europe. That would have been a cracking competition. A club from Edinburgh would be invited as well and Wallace Mercer thought what a good idea would be merging Hibs and Hearts and create a big club as well. I´ll alllow Hibby the honour to explain what the Hibs fans thought about it.
Scottish football is all I need. I can live without the rest.

Hibernian and Hearts merging to form a Edinburgh super club would be a wonderful idea

I'd be a bit upset if Celtic and Rangers left the SPL as we need the 6-8 points we take off them per season
