Basri named Arab Contractors boss

Taha Basri has been appointed Arab Contractors new manager replacing Mohamed Radwan, the Cairo club said on Sunday.

"Basri will take over after the Egyptian Cup finishes," Arab Contractors chairman Ibrahim Mehleb told FilGoal.com.

The former Zamalek star has been in charge of Enppi since 2000 but he announced in April that he will quit the post at the end of the season.

Under Basri, Enppi has won the Egyptian Cup, qualified to the Arab Champions League (ACL) finals and finished as the Egyptian League runners-up last season.

Meanwhile, Arab Contractors have signed Ittihad players Omar Islam, Samir Ashour, Sherif Ghazala and Mohamed 'Hamada' Youssef for undisclosed fees.

Arab Contractors finished the 2005-2006 campaign in ninth spot with 28 points, only two points ahead of the relegation zone.

GHALY STAYING AT SPURS

EP asked Ghaly if he was aware of the rumours about him leaving Spurs before even making his first team debut. "This is very untrue. Fabrication at its best," said the tenacious midfielder.

He went on to add: "I was injured for quite some time and needed time to get back to fitness. Everybody knew that it would have been unwise to rush me back into competitive games before I am totally ready.

"I will start the preseason training with the lads just like everybody else," ensured Ghaly.

EP also asked the player about his relationship with manager Martin Jol. Ghaly was quick to praise his boss saying: "I can't wait to play under his command. We deserved a Champions League spot this season and lots of credit should go to him. Throughout my time in London he has been encouraging me to regain my fitness, which I have done."

Ghaly also gave EgyptianPlayers.com his comments on Mido's situation with the London based side. "I have always wanted to play with Mido at a European club. We could have done so well for the team. We've played a lot together for Egypt and we are close friends on and off the pitch," answered the midfielder.

"Mido's performances with Spurs were of a high standard because he is a player of high calibre, but I am not going to comment on the manager's decision not to go for him in the market.

"Mido wanted to stay with the team. That's all I can say."

About where Mido will be heading next, Ghaly opined: " I think he will go back to Rome. He is a professional player who is under contract. I wish him success and I personally believe that he will answer his critics well."

EP asked Hossam about his time in Egypt and he is currently enjoying his summer vacation on the golden beaches of Sinai. "I want to spend more time with my family, especially after my recent break-up with my fiancée."

Lokomotiv demand $1.7-million for Zaki

A Lokomotiv Moscow delegation has arrived in Cairo on Monday to open talks with Egyptian giants Ahli and Zamalek regarding striker Amr Zaki for $1.7-million.

Zamalek officials met the Russian delegation after their arrival, while Ahli are still seeking an appointment to try and land the former Enppi star, informed sources told FilGoal.com exclusively on Monday.

Ahli have already tried to sign Zaki on a loan deal from Lokomotiv, but the Russian outfit refused, given their insistence on getting back the exact fee, $1.7-million, they had paid to sign the talented striker, who excelled with Egypt in their winning African Cup of Nations (ACN) campaign in February.

Zaki sustained an injury at the beginning of his career with Lokomotiv in mid-march that saw him sidelined and cut short his future in Russia.

Vengada considers coaching Olympic team as new challenge

Zamalek former coach Eduardo “Nelo” Vengada insisted that coaching the Olympic team is a new challenge for him, and said that knowing all about Egyptian soccer played a part in driving him to accept the offer.

“My negotiations with the EFA president didn’t last long and I accepted the offer immediately,” Vengada said in a press conference in the EFA headquarters on Monday.

The Egyptian FA held the press conference to reveal both Vengada and assistant coach Arnaldo Carvalho’s contract details.

The Portoguese head coach will receive a $19,000 monthly salary, while Carvalho will get only $6,000.

“Vengada is the right person for this job, he has a host of Egyptian and regional accomplishments and has some good experience in dealing with this specific age range,” EFA president Samir Zaher said.

Vengada is scheduled to takeover his new team in July after settling personal details in Portugal.

Zaher also said that the EFA were taking their time in choosing Vengada’s coaching staff to avoid any future misunderstandings between them.

Both Vengada and Carvalho contracts will expire after the qualifying rounds for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing and will be renewed on condition that Egypt qualifies.

Vengada guided Zamalek to be crowned Egyptian champions in the 2003/2004 season before being sacked.

Al-Tabie: My return to Zamalek is conditional

Egypt defender Beshir Al-Tabie revealed that he was going back to Turkey after Rizespor called him for an urgent meeting to discuss a possible contract-extension, but he also kept the door ajar for a Zamalek comeback.

“I got an urgent call from Rizespor officials on Monday asking me to return to Turkey as soon as possible to negotiate a contract-extension,” Al-Tabie told FilGoal.com exclusively on Monday.

Al-Tabie also revealed that Zamalek wanted to bring him back to his former club and that an undisclosed board member in charge of negotiating a new deal with him.

Nevertheless, Al-Tabie insisted that his return to Zamalek would be conditional and that club officials would have to agree on certain terms before he can make a comeback.
