This is not the first time they have had the CONCACAF CL. They have been playing the CONCACAF Champions Cup for years. The Champions League is just an expanded version of that competition.

Some teams who stink in Europe can get in the UEFA Cup via winning the UEFA Fair Play Award.

fairly certain TFC should look pretty good against some of the teams from the islands, now how I feel about TFC in the CL is dependent upon the bracket
TFC vs. Pachuca or America, I'll be cursing TFCs very name
TFC vs. D.C. United, oh happy day!

There are no guarantees that TFC even makes it to the Concacaf CL. They're a poor MLS side and the Impact and Whitecaps are quality USL sides. I think the seperation in quality won't be great, particularly since TFC hasn't signed any players (see DP slot) that could elevate them beyond a USL team, unless Mo Edu develops a lot this year I guess.

Some would immediately point out that last year's top sides had no DPs (DC, Houston, New England, Chivas USA) but these are sides who all have well rounded rosters. The signing of a Blanco-like DP for TFC could really do wonders in the league anyway, and maybe snag a win or two in the qualifying rounds of CONCACAF.
The worrying part is that a quick look at TFC's roster shows that theres no one from the Americas not from the US or Canada. There's simply no excuse not to go for Latin American talent, every team in the league has figured out how cost effective they are especially over this last off-season.

Supposedly TFC have $800K in cap space!
That can't be for 1 season though, that must be over two.

Glad to hear this actually got off the ground.
I would still prefer to see teams from Brazil and Argentina included, but I guess the whole regional thing dictates the limitations.

CONMEBOL? Is that the South American federation? Do you mean they'll get an invite to the Copa Libertadores?
What do you mean by unfair?
